<image:caption>Your child isn’t struggling because they’re doing something wrong—they’re navigating a path that simply wasn’t designed with them in mind. Before guiding them, take time to understand: Which “steps” feel stable (familiar people, shared interests) What makes them feel safe or overwhelmed (group settings, unstructured play) What kinds of interactions they enjoy Friendship doesn’t have to look one specific way to be valid.</image:caption>

For neurodivergent children, the right kind of play can gently build social skills without pressure or overwhelm—creating opportunities to practice, connect, and feel safe at the same time.</image:caption>

<image:title>Journal - How to Know You’re in Perimenopause: Signs You’re Stepping Onto a New Path - DO YOU RELATE?</image:title>
<image:caption>For many women, the years leading up to menopause can feel confusing. One month everything seems normal, and the next your body begins to change in ways you don’t quite recognize. These shifts may signal perimenopause—the natural transition before menopause when hormone levels start to fluctuate. While the symptoms can feel unsettling at first, it can help to view this stage differently. Rather than something to fear, perimenopause can be seen as the beginning of a new path—a phase of life where your body is evolving and inviting you to understand it in a new way.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Neurodiversity is a term you may be seeing more often in relation to mental health, ADHD in adults, autism, and overall wellbeing. Many people first encounter it while wondering “Could I have ADHD?” or “Why do I struggle with focus, overwhelm or organisation?” If you’re an adult who hasn’t had a formal diagnosis but feel that neurodiversity resonates with your experience — you’re not alone. Understanding this concept can be a powerful first step toward self-awareness and support.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Do I need a diagnosis? A formal ADHD diagnosis can be validating and helpful, but it isn’t required to start understanding yourself or seeking support. Many people benefit from neurodiversity-informed therapy, practical coping strategies, and supportive routines even without a clinical label. If you’re interested in exploring this personally or for your child, you might find useful resources through ADHD information services such as ADDISS or the National Autistic Society for broader neurodivergent understanding.</image:caption>

<image:title>Journal - The signs of burnout & how to recover - The Science Behind Burnout</image:title>
<image:caption>Burnout happens when the body experiences chronic stress without enough recovery time. When we encounter stress, our bodies activate the "fight-or-flight" response, releasing hormones like cortisol and adrenaline to prepare for immediate action. While this response is beneficial in short-term situations, prolonged activation due to chronic stress can lead to various health issues. Over time, repeated activation of the stress response takes a toll on the body, contributing to high blood pressure, promoting the formation of artery-clogging deposits, and causing brain changes that may contribute to anxiety, depression, and addiction. Brain Chemistry & Stress Reduction When we engage in self-care activities, our brain releases neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin, which enhance mood and promote feelings of happiness and relaxation. Conversely, chronic stress increases cortisol levels, which can lead to anxiety, depression, and even physical illnesses. <image:caption>1. Silence In a world full of background noise, short form addictive social media, on-demand shows and podcasts, it’s easy to see why many of us don’t experience a great deal of quiet. Experts and research studies alike confirm that, by allowing time for silence we can improve concentration & focus whilst reducing racing thoughts and stimulating brain growth. Prioritising time for silence can be a gateway to mindfulness, which has proven benefits for anxiety. TRY IT: Why don't you try exercise without your headphones? Tune into the sounds of nature during your daily movement or spend 10 minutes a day allowing yourself to tune into your thoughts without distraction.</image:caption>

<image:caption>3. Stillness Stillness allows the mind to slow down and declutter. By reducing the constant stream of thoughts, you can achieve greater mental clarity and focus. This helps in making more thoughtful decisions and improving problem-solving skills. Stillness gives you the space to observe your emotions without reacting impulsively. TRY IT: Consider practices such as restorative yoga, breathing techniques such as slow deep breaths which can slow your heart rate. Take time to sit in a favourite place, at home or outdoors. If you struggle with silence, soft quiet music can be a good way to try and distract your busy brain.</image:caption>

<image:title>Journal - 5 ways to cope with anxiety at christmas - 1. Set Realistic Expectations The idea of a “perfect Christmas” is often idealised in movies and advertising. Social media also can contribute to to increased feelings of comparison and pressure. The often unattainable images that flood the media can cause heightened pressure to strive for perfection and can lead to stress and disappointment. Let go of the idea that you need to create a flawless holiday experience, and instead focus on what truly matters to you and your loved ones. Being present to experience the joyful moments as apposed to feeling that you have to perform to an audience, be that friends, family or “followers”. Be honest with yourself about what you can and can’t do this season. It’s okay to simplify traditions, scale back on gifts, or decline certain invitations if they feel overwhelming.</image:title>

<image:title>Journal - 5 ways to cope with anxiety at christmas - 3. Plan Ahead and Set Boundaries Much of the anxiety around Christmas comes from feeling out of control or overstretched. Planning ahead can help you manage the season more effectively. Creating a schedule that includes your social commitments, shopping lists, and importantly downtime. Having something that you have planned during a calm period can help. During Calmer spells, you can think more clearly, evaluate priorities and anticipate potential challenges without the pressure of immediate deadlines. Having a plan in place also enables you to focus on execution rather than in the moment decision making. One of the hardest but most liberating skills during the holidays is learning to say no. Overcommitting to social events, family gatherings, and other obligations can lead to burnout and amplify anxiety. Before saying yes to any invitation, pause and consider whether it aligns with your energy levels and priorities. It’s okay to decline events or suggest alternatives that feel more manageable for you.</image:title>

<image:caption>Vitamin D, often referred to as the “sunshine vitamin,” plays an essential role in maintaining overall health. Unlike many other vitamins, it acts more like a hormone, influencing various biological processes. Vitamin D is crucial for bone health, immune function, and the prevention of several chronic diseases. A lack of this essential nutrient can have far-reaching health consequences.</image:caption>

<image:title>Journal - the sunshine vitamin: Celebrating Vitamin D Week for Better Mental and Physical Health - There’s a reason why its called the sunshine vitamin…</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the unique aspects of vitamin D is that it can be synthesized by the body when the skin is exposed to sunlight. However, various factors can limit our ability to produce sufficient vitamin D naturally. These factors include geographic location, skin tone, use of sunscreen, time spent indoors, and the time of year. The most efficient way for the body to obtain vitamin D is through exposure to sunlight. Ultraviolet B (UVB) rays from the sun convert a cholesterol derivative in the skin into vitamin D3. This process varies depending on several factors: Geography, Skin tone and Age. To balance the benefits of sunlight exposure with the risks of skin damage, it is generally recommended to spend about 10-30 minutes in the sun, several times a week, without sunscreen. However, individual needs may vary based on location, skin type, and the time of day. Outside of this range, sunscreen should be applied to reduce the risk of skin cancer.</image:caption>

<image:title>Journal - Your Emotions Are Not What You Think: How Systematic Kinesiology Improves Your Emotional Health - Understanding that you are not defined by your emotions is crucial in a society quick to label emotional states as disorders. Emotions are transient responses to external stimuli, encompassing more than mere feelings; they trigger a complex interplay within our chemical, physical, and energetic realms of health, often overlooked in allopathic medicine and “holistic” healthcare. Systematic Kinesiology works with all these realms of health in one treatment, making it the most holistic natural health practice, and that is why it is so effective.</image:title>

<image:caption>When you think of an emotional stress, your muscles may unlock. However, nutritional supplementation can change this. By using muscle testing, we find the best nutrient to support the specific emotional stress that caused a muscle to unlock, transforming it into a locked state. This personalised approach improves biochemical balance and targets specific emotional stressors, unlike generic supplement recommendations found online, in books, or standard protocols.</image:caption>

<image:title>Journal - The Impact of Nature and Community on your Mental Health - The restorative power of nature has long been linked to reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety. This is due to a combination of factors that work in harmony to release those feel good hormones such as serotonin, dopamine and endorphins. Simplistic senses that are evoked during time in nature, combine to create a greater feeling of wellbeing. This includes the distraction of beautiful views on the over-stimulated mind, symbiotically creating a feeling of calm.</image:title>

Cornish rambling provides not only physical exercise but also an opportunity to immerse oneself in the natural beauty and rich history of the region. The pleasure derived from traversing the diverse landscapes, from sandy beaches to windswept moors, is unparalleled. One of the primary benefits of rambling is the sense of freedom and exploration it offers. As one walks along the coastal paths or through ancient woodlands, the stresses of modern life seem to fade away, replaced by a profound connection with nature. <image:title>Journal - Embracing Simplicity: the benefits of teaching our children the art of simplicity - When we think of success it is often synonymous with complexity however there's a growing movement advocating for the art of simplicity, particularly when it comes to raising our children. This idea is beautifully captured in William Martin's poetic wisdom in "The Parent's Tao Te Ching," where he urges parents to guide their children towards finding joy in ordinary moments rather than pressuring them into the pursuit of extraordinary lives.</image:title>

<image:title>Journal - Embracing Simplicity: the benefits of teaching our children the art of simplicity - Research supports the idea that cultivating simplicity in a child's upbringing can positively impact their development. Studies suggest that children raised with an appreciation for simplicity tend to exhibit higher levels of creativity, empathy, and emotional intelligence. Moreover, they often navigate stress and challenges more effectively, fostering resilience from an early age.</image:title>

<image:caption>In its modern interpretation, it is easy to simplify or mistake Hygge as a trending aesthetic such as cosy blankets, warming candles and picture perfect settings. While these elements can enhance the atmosphere, Hygge is an age-old concept centred around cultivating contentment and a sense of connection. It involves embracing simplicity, appreciating small joys and in its essence Hygge is a celebration of life's comforting moments. As daylight dwindles, many find themselves suffering with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is often recommended for managing this condition. As we delve into the depths of hygge for SAD, it's crucial to remember that Hygee doesn't dismiss the efficacy of CBT or other therapeutic interventions. Rather, it complements these practices giving us valuable insights to foster a deeper, and refined approach to emotional well-being.</image:caption>

<image:title>Journal - Get in touch with your Circadian Rhythm - What is your circadian rhythm?</image:title>
<image:caption>The circadian rhythm is a 24-hour cycle that regulates various physiological processes, including sleep-wake patterns, hormone production, and body temperatures. Being able to recognise your body's natural rhythm can allow you to harness the natural ebb and flow of energy levels throughout the day. The modern environment means artificial lighting dominates our surroundings, and our schedules are no longer determined by the rising and setting of the sun. In the evening, being able to minimise exposure to screens and artificial light, especially blue light emitted by electronic devices, for a calming pre-sleep routine, will signal to your mind and body that it is time to wind down. Similarly exposing ourselves to natural morning light acts as a powerful signal to our circadian rhythm, indicating the start of the day and helping to align our internal clock with the external environment. This synchronisation is crucial for maintaining a healthy sleep-wake cycle.</image:caption>

Once you get into the habit of making it, it becomes very easy.</image:title>

<image:caption>This is the perfect gluten and dairy free, homemade recipe to kick start your health journey. You can make it in bulk and store it for weeks. It’s full of nutty nutrition and a delicious healthy snack throughout the day. Nuts are rich in heart-healthy polyunsaturated fats and monounsaturated fats, which lower “bad” cholesterol; this will ultimately affect your arteries, which have a very important job of carrying blood to your heart. If that job is made harder, the chances of a heart attack rapidly increase.</image:caption>

<image:title>Journal - food for the brain - Fish is often referred to as brain food, especially salmon as it contains the fat omega 3. It is recommended that we eat fish 2-3 times a week. It provides good quality protein and high levels of vitamins and minerals, particularly vitamin B12 and iodine. Iodine is especially important for those who have had breast cancer and is a mineral which is lacking in many plant foods nowadays due to depletion in the soil. Salmon is a very good source of omega 3.</image:title>

<image:caption>Clearly the experience is also fun, and we all need more of that in our lives! Especially in winter, we can get stagnant and bored, our bodies less accustomed to feeling the elements, and we can become a little disconnected. A visit to a nordic spa will cut through the thickest of winter fog and make you feel alive again. Bare feet to the ground, hair blowing in the wind, goose pimple skin, flushed cheeks, steaming shoulders and head under the sky, you can’t help but feel more presence and sensation when your body is tingling from the cold and revelling in the heat of a wood-fired sauna or steamy hot tub soak.</image:caption>

The story of an unskilled modern father, Gornall set out to build a traditional wooden boat as a gift for his newborn daughter. This book celebrates traditional skill coupled with the connection to nature and passing this down as a legacy to his newborn daughter. Undaunted, he embarked on a voyage of rediscovery, determined to navigate his way back to a time when we could fashion our future and leave our mark on history using only time-honoured skills and the materials at hand. We support and encourage each other and it’s an antidote to loneliness too. When we first moved back to Cornwall I felt lost and isolated at times which can happen at any time of our lives. But now, because of one small decision, life looks and feels very different. You can find groups such as the Bluetits your area and there are always local groups advertised on Facebook too.</image:title>

<image:caption>Our bleed has finished and our oestrogen is rising. Oestrogen brings with it feelings of energy, that feeling of invincibility, that ‘can do’ feeling. This is when to book in the big meetings, the big projects, the things that really need doing. Your exercise regime may ramp up a level, and you may want lighter foods that feel in alignment with your inner spring. When making plans in this phase it is important to be aware of how you may feel in later phases.</image:caption>

<image:title>Journal - top 5 books about mental health & wellbeing - 2. The Sun and her Flowers // Rupi Kaur There is something quite breathtaking about Kaur's outlook on life, learnt through the short verses of her poetry. You read as though you are reading her thoughts, and relate as though they are the words you have been trying to find. Poetry is a beautiful medium of literature that can be picked up and put down so easily, without commitment. Perfect for those who 'don't read'.</image:title>
